Our Monterey Car Week adventure ended yesterday, but it wasn’t your typical ending. Instead of the usual flight home, BMW of North America handed us the keys – again – to the BMW M5 CS. This is the second row in a week where we get to drive the most coveted BMW of week we spent some time with the M5 CS in New Jersey for a week-long test drive, coupled with some launch controls and other fun things on a tarmac. And this week, the special and limited M car was also our chariot from Monterey to San Francisco. But before we left the one of the most picturesque places in the world, we had to stop for an ocean photoshoot with the M5 parked the car on the famous 17 Mile Drive Road where the Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic showed its dual character. Under different light conditions, the matte grey ranges from a light and playful hue to a dark and deep color which enhances the sporty looks of this for CS-duty, the M5 has been beefed up and it looks much meaner than the Competition model. That new carbon fiber hood is as aggressive as it is light, with a large hood bulge, a couple of vents and more creases. It also gets bronze accents on the kidney grilles to match the wheels, carbon fiber aero, a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler and a new and beautifully sculpted diffuser. Même si la future stratégie de BMW est orientée vers l'électrification, la maison bavaroise ne renonce pas à ses versions hautes performances à moteur "traditionnel". Il y a évidemment les nouvelles M3 et M4 qui arriveront courant 2021. Mais voici que l'on découvre aujourd'hui la berline la plus sportive et la plus puissante jamais fabriquée par la division M ! La BMW M5 Competition ne vous suffisait pas ? Qu'à cela ne tienne, voici la BMW M5 CS ! Encore plus extrême, la berline opte pour de nouvelles caractéristiques et solutions technologiques qui lui permettent de passer de 0 à 100 km/h en seulement 3 secondes... C'est 0,3 seconde de moins que la M5 Competition, ce qui à ce niveau de performances, n'est certainement pas rien ! La vitesse de pointe limitée électroniquement est de 305 km/h. Le prix ? Chez nous en France, la super berline de sport démarre à 199'900 euros. 70 kg de moins que la Competition En plus de l'augmentation de puissance de 10 ch du moteur V8 4,4 litres déjà installé sur la M5 Competition, permettant à la M5 CS d'afficher 635 chevaux, les ingénieurs de la société bavaroise ont concentré leur attention sur la réduction du poids total de la voiture. Et la nouvelle version d'afficher 70 kg de moins que la version Competition grâce à l'utilisation de nombreux éléments en plastique renforcé de fibres de carbone CFRP, dont le capot, le splitter avant, les coques de rétroviseurs, le spoiler arrière, le diffuseur arrière, le couvercle du compartiment moteur M Power et le silencieux d'admission. Afin de combiner au mieux un équilibre neutre, indispensable au quotidien, et un plaisir de conduite extrême à la recherche des performances maximales de la voiture, les ingénieurs de la division sport de M GmbH sont également intervenus sur les réglages de la suspension de la voiture. Basée sur le châssis de la M5 Competition, la version CS est 7 mm plus basse et est équipée d'amortisseurs développés pour la M8 Gran Coupe qui amortissent les charges sur les roues et améliorent considérablement la tenue de route. Les seuils de porte portent quant à eux des badges lumineux "M5 CS". La cabine offre beaucoup de place. Mais seulement pour quatre personnes, avec quatre magnifiques baquets. À l'avant, il y a deux sièges M Carbon avec appuie-tête intégré sur lesquels figurent les logos M5 rétro-éclairés et le contour du Nürburgring. À l'arrière, il y a deux sièges individuels.
